New York Bride & Groom of Raleigh has a stunning selection of designer wedding dresses. Your dream gown is here waiting for you to find it. If your dress is destined for out-of-town nuptials, this post can help you take the worry and guesswork out of getting it from Point A to Point B. The first thing we have to advise is do not pack your dress in a suitcase. Put it in a garment bag. The following post offers details for safely placing your gown in a bag.

Pack Up Your Wedding Dress in a Garment Bag with Care

Most wedding dresses have trains and many have lots of fabric, so gathering up your wedding dress neatly into a garment bag isn’t necessarily an intuitive task. Here’s how to pack up your wedding dress properly and avoid getting wrinkles in your dress during the flight. First, stick the hanger of the dress through the top of the garment bag and hang it up high so you can work with the wedding dress. Then, take the left side of the gown and the right side of the gown and fold them into each other toward the center. From there, take the bottom of the train and roll it up until the fabric is contained within the garment bag. Once inside, it’s time to zip it up — carefully. Whenever you zip up a garment bag with delicate fabric inside, make sure to place a finger on the other side of the zipper as you guide it up so that the dress doesn’t get caught in its tongs. We Can Prepare You For Travel

New York Bride & Groom of Raleigh has all the pertinent information you need for your wedding dress travel — and for cleaning and dress preservation after, as well. For instance, our friendly and experienced bridal consultants can recommend whether steaming is suitable for your wedding gown if wrinkling occurs. (Many destination weddings occur in humid locales. Oftentimes, simply hanging your wedding dress the moment you arrive allows gravity to take its toll and remove light wrinkles.)

If you’re travel plans involve flying, don’t trust your dress to checked baggage. While the airlines do their best to keep up with your bags, don’t risk the nightmare of having to wonder where the missing suitcase containing your wedding dress is and will it turn up in time for the ceremony. Keep your dress with you on the plane. This article has more details:

Get a Garment Bag

Many brick & mortar retailers and online shops sell garment bags designed especially for destination wedding travel. It is one investment you’ll be happy you made. Generally, a 72-inch bag is large enough to hold a gown and a train.

Properly Stow Your Dress on the Plane

Once on the plane and passengers have loaded their bags in the overhead compartment, gently place your dress on top of their items by laying it flat. You can also ask the flight attendant if they are willing to hang the garment bag in their coat or storage closet. This will ensure safe travel and minimal wrinkling. Don’t Forget Your Extras

What you can — and absolutely should — include in your carry-on suitcase: all the accessories you plan on wearing with your dress, such as your veil or headpiece, jewelry, lingerie, and shoes.

A do-it-all kit that can be shipped (or used as a carry-on in lieu of a suitcase) is another option for getting your gown out of town. The Original Destination Wedding Kit, sold by the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists, includes acid-free papers, packing instructions, a stain stick, and a dress box that fits into an overhead bin ($50). Ship through a reputable carrier, like Fed Ex or UPS, and make sure to insure it. Read more at Martha Stewart Weddings
